Position Overview:

As the Director of Interpreting at Heritage Interpreting, you will play a pivotal role in leading and supporting our dedicated team of ASL interpreters. Your work will ensure that our services are conducted with the utmost professionalism and efficacy, and that all stakeholders – from our clients to our interpreters – are fully supported.

You will be responsible for overseeing the professional development and performance of our interpreters, working closely with Human Resources to recruit top talent, and fostering strong interpersonal relationships within the team and the company at large. Your role will also require strong numerical skills as you assist with budget management.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee our team of ASL interpreters, providing supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Develop and implement interpreting protocols and guidelines to ensure quality service.
  • Assist in managing the department budget, carefully tracking expenditures and helping to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Work closely with Human Resources in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring new ASL interpreters.
  • Foster positive relationships with interpreters and internal stakeholders to promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Serve as a liaison between the interpreters and other departments, ensuring effective communication and resolving any interpersonal or work-related issues.
  • Provide or arrange ASL interpretation services as needed.
  • Address concerns or issues related to interpreting services and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Regularly evaluate and provide feedback on interpreters’ performance, using key performance metrics to assess and improve service quality.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and developments in the field of ASL interpreting.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Deaf Studies, ASL Interpreting, etc.); a Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in ASL interpreting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Fluent in ASL and English, with strong communication skills in both.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture and the ethical considerations in interpreting.
  • Ability to effectively manage a diverse team of interpreters.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.

 

Location: Remote with frequent travel

 

Compensation

  • $70k – $100k annual salary, depending on factors such as experience, geographical location, etc.
